Students’ Winning Design
BTEC students from Poole St Edwards RC/CE VA School have won a competition to design a banner representing the church schools of Dorset and Wiltshire.
The Sixth Formers’ winning design featured in a procession of banners from all over England and Wales during a national service at Westminster Abbey on Friday 14 October (Noon).
The Service commemorates the 200th anniversary of the National Society, and is mainly for children and young people. The Archbishop of Canterbury preached and the Archbishop of Wales also attended. Lord Hill represented the Government.
The front of the banner features a white dove with real feathers and the students’
names embroidered into musical notes.

The back includes rainbow colours and a three-
Textiles teacher Sharon Bennett said : “This has been one of the most exciting and challenging projects we’ve ever done. The learning curve for the students, and the opportunity for team building, has been amazing. We’re grateful to the Diocesan Board of Education for having faith in us.”
2011 marks the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the National Society, an organisation which set out to build a school in every parish in England and Wales. The National Society is still at the forefront of the Church of England's school building and support programme, enabling church schools to meet the needs of families and children today.
