Rector’s ramblings

The aim of these ramblings is that it becomes a two way thing – what is called these days a ‘blog’.  (Where did that name come from?)  In other words, I have some reflections on things and you can feed back your thoughts too.  All you need to do is to register with our Webmaster to ensure that we know who is writing in. Dear Friends,

It’s official!  Spring has (almost) arrived.  The snowdrops are going over, the crocuses are pushing through, and the dafs will be in flower for Mothering Sunday.  I’ve just been along the banks of the River Stour at Canford with Branston our Border Terrier and even he has a spring in his step as we enjoyed the first really warm walk since the winter began.

It’s been a cold winter – although in Canford we’ve fared better than most – and it isn’t over yet. But God has given us those seasons I think as a reminder that with every winter in our lives, there is always the hope of spring around the corner.

You may have had some difficult news recently; a bereavement, loss of a job or failure of a business venture, disappointment in exams or an interview.  But God has a new opportunity for you, and it’s just round the corner.  Look for the signs of spring, of new hope, and take that next step.

At our recent joint service at Canford School, Ian Coffey preached about faith in Credit Crunch times.  And he ended with that great psalm of David, Psalm 27, which inspires hope in all who trust in God.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? ….”

And David goes on to inspire us with insights and hope for a new springtime,
that only a godly poet like him can express:

“One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.”

As we come up to a new Annual General Meeting, when we review what has happened this past year, we will also look forward to a new season in the life of the Canford Parish.  Maybe I’m a born optimist, but I have great hopes for the future not just of our church, but for the greater church, because God, like the seasons, will not be stopped in expressing his presence.  Because, lets face it, he started it, so he’ll finish it, and he hasn’t finished with us yet.

With love,
